A PIONEERING, AND FASCINATING, COMPARATIVE STUDY In these six lectures Cherry compares ancient Irish, Hebrew, Mohammedan, Roman and English penal law systems. It was described as "a sound and careful piece of work in a branch of comparative law not yet adequately treated by any English writer" in an 1891 review in the Law Quarterly Review (Vol. 7, p. 89). RICHARD ROBERT CHERRY 1859-1923] was an Irish judge, law professor and politician. In 1899 he became Reid Professor of Criminal and Constitutional Law at the University of Dublin. He was appointed Attorney-General for Ireland in 1905 and elected to Parliament in 1906. From 1913-1916 he served as Lord Chief Justice of the King's Bench in Ireland. Cherry is the author of The Irish Land Law and Land Purchase Acts (1897), which went through three editions.
