Elegant Christmas Tree Decorating: Where to Start
Share
You don't need a designer to create a beautiful Christmas tree. A coordinated ornament set, a simple color scheme, and one evening is all it takes.
1. Pick two finishes, not ten colors
Trees look expensive when ornaments coordinate. A 24-piece ornament set in shiny, matte, glitter, and mirrored finishes gives you a complete palette in one box — no mismatched leftovers from years past.
2. Go shatterproof if you have kids or pets
Glass ornaments and toddlers don't mix. Shatterproof plastic baubles look just as good on the tree and survive being batted by a cat or grabbed by a small hand.
3. How many ornaments do you actually need?
Rule of thumb: about 20 ornaments per foot of tree for a full look. A 4–5 ft tree needs roughly 80–100 — so plan on three to four 24-piece sets, or start with one set and fill in with ribbon and lights.
4. Lights first, ornaments second
Always wrap lights around the tree before hanging a single ornament. Work from the trunk outward so the glow comes from inside the branches.
5. Finish with something cozy underneath
A tree skirt — or in a pinch, a soft throw blanket — hides the stand and makes the whole corner feel intentional. Browse more gifts that arrive before Christmas while you're at it.
